研究概要

今年度発足した本重点領域研究は、39名の計画研究班員と26名の公募研究者が、各自の個別的な研究を進めるとともに、総括班企画研究会などを通して分野間の研究交流を積極的に展開し、すでに多くの成果が出ている.本研究計画(総括班)としての活動は領域全体の視点からの研究計画の点検・更新、領域全体研究会の開催(1月8〜10日、東京)、および、領域ニュ-スレタ-の発行等の他に、以下の研究会開催等を行い、成果を得た。
研究会「物性研究における計算物理(英名略称CPCMP)」を開催した(10月21〜23日、大阪)。領域研究の中から特に次の3つのテ-マー第一原理分子動力学法による物性計算、相関の強い量子系に対する量子モンテカルロ法や数値的対角化法を用いた研究、およびスピングラスなどのランダム系の統計力学に関する数値解析ーに焦点を当て、本領域研究で招へいしたS.White氏(米国)の他に、第6回西宮湯川記念シンポジウムで来日した9名の国外研究者の参加も得て活発な研究発表と討論が展開され、大きな成果を納めた。尚、本研究会と西宮シンポジウムの2つの会議の成果は1巻の会議録として今夏Springer社(ドイツ)より刊行される予定である。
研究会「イジング・マシ-ンによる物性研究」を開催した(12月9〜11日、東京)。イジング・マシ-ンはイジング系のシミュレ-ションを行うための個人レベルの専用機で、これを有効に活用するための計算手法や関連する物性物理、統計物理の問題が議論された。
ハ-ドウェア面の今後の動向としてベクトル演算から並列演算への移行が注目されている。本領域研究でも並列処理が可能なミニス-パ-コンピュ-タを導入し(慶応大)、また、小型並列計算機の試作を領域内の重点プロジェクトとして総括班が支援した。
