研究概要

生物学の分野でコンピュ-タ-の知識を殆ど持たない研究者が、ゲノム解析の結果およびデ-タベ-スを日常の研究に利用できるようにするためには、優れたユ-ザ-・インタ-フェ-スを開発することが重要かつ緊急課題である。
本研究では、遺伝子解析とゲノムの塩基配列の決定がもっとも進んでいる大腸菌を対象として、(1)すでに塩基配列が決定されている遺伝子とゲノム上の遺伝子地図との対応関係を整理するためのシステムとして、米国Argonne National LaboratoryのDavid G.Azwadaらが開発したGenoGraphicsの操作性について検討した。このソフトは、Sun Microsystems Open Windowsのもとで作動し、基本操作の殆どをキ-ボ-ドに触れることなく、マウスのみで行なえるようになっており、コンピュ-タ-の初心者でも殆どマニュアル無しで使いこなすことができている。内容は、Koharaらが作成した制限酵素地図、B.J.Bachmannが作成した遺伝子地図、塩基配列決定済みの遺伝子、遺伝子間で連絡した塩基配列、その塩基配列に基づいた制限酵素地図などを相互に直接対応させたもので、これまでにこのようなソフトは開発されておらず、非常に優れたものといえる。しかしながら、高性能のワ-クステ-ションを利用しているにも拘わらず、動作速度にスム-ズさを欠くという欠点がある。近い将来には高速のワ-クステ-ションが使えるようになると考えられ、動作速度の問題は数年のうちには完全に解決されるだろう。また、(2)GenBankのデ-タベ-スを処理して、Koharaらが作成した制限酵素地図と直接対応させるプログラムを開発(外注)した。このソフトはパ-ソナルコンピュ-タ-(PC9800)で操作するもので、研究者自身のデ-タ(未登録の)も一緒に処理することができる。将来(1)のようなソフトと組み合わせると、より理想的なものとなると考えられる。
