研究概要

進化分子工学の推進について、以下の3つの点について検討した。その結果得られた結論と提言に基づいて、重点領域研究計画を立案し、平成5年度からの研究課題として提案した。
1研究の現状分析:進化分子工学がこれまでに挙げてきた研究成果について検討し、カバ-すべき研究課題について討論した。特に、研究課題を階層別に分けることにより研究の戦略目標と有効な研究手法の組合せを整理することが出来た。
2わが国における研究状況:分担者全員による研究報告を行い、わが国のこの分野の研究活動の特徴、弱点について意見交換を行った。
3早急に推進すべき課題:わが国の研究の特徴を生かし、進化分子工学のより効率的な推捗を計かるにはどの様な課題を緊急、かつ集注的に研究すべきかを討論した。その結果、「空間配列上の適応歩行」という概念を核として、自然選択実験系としては核酸レベル、核タンパク質レベル、細胞レベルの三つの階層について、変異の方法としては点突然変異とエクソンシャッフリングの二つの機構について集中的に研究することが必要と結論した。わが国の研究活動をレベルアップするために必要な研究チ-ムを策定した。
進化分子工学の分野により多くの若手研究者が参入するよう公開講演会「進化的分子工学こと始め」を開催し、この分野の将来展望について述べた。
