ベネチテス目植物生殖器官の起源に関する古植物学的研究

研究概要

1.北海道及び千葉県銚子の白亜紀有組織植物化石産地において調査、採集を行い、既存の標本とあわせて比較解剖学的に研究した。
2.ベネチテス(キカデオイデア)目の花について、以下の新事実が確認され、従来の不明点が解消した。
(1)胚珠最外層に薄い皮膜状の構造が確認され、この目の胚珠構造が決定された。
(2)集合子嚢中に維管束が見つかり、集合子嚢の起源を遡及できた。
(3)花托内での維管束走向が復元された。
(4)花軸と主茎との形態学的関係が明らかになり、花構造の進化過程が明らかになった。
3.ベネチテス目は古生代のメドゥロ-サ科植物から進化したとみられていたが、本研究によって両者の関係がさらに明確になった。
4.ベネチテス目の胚珠の構造進化を解明するには、古生代の胚珠の起源にまでさかのぼる必要がある。逆に本研究によって従来の胚珠の起源に関する定説を覆すような事実も明らかになった。今後その事実をもとにして種子植物全体にわたる胚珠の進化を見直すことが課題として残された。
5.ベネチテス目の形態学的研究と並行して、同時代の植物群の解析も進んでおり、ベネチテス目と同じソテツ系の裸子植物である、ソテツ類の新属(群馬県の下部白亜紀層)や、球果類(北海道)の新属を記載した。
6.以上の結果は学会及び、学会誌に発表を続けており、国際的にも評価され始めている。
