The present experiment aims to clarify the effects of two different types of shoes with identical weight on thermophysiological responses and clothing microclimate in six walking women at air temperatures of 18ー23℃,glbe temperatures of 28ー37℃,air velocities of 0.6ー1.7m/sec,and relative humidity of 55ー65%RH in the field.A zori(Japanese Sandals)and halfーsized boots were used as experimental shoes. The weight of two kind of shoes had idenical weight. The subject walked at definite speed for 20 min under sunny outside and took a rest in the shade for 10 min. These schedules were repeated three times in a trial.Rectal and skin tempertures(instep, sole, leg, forearm, chest)heart rate, temperetures and humidities of clothing microclimate at the level of trunk, leg and sole were continuously measured during 20 min walk and 10 min rest. The experiment was done at the follicular phase of the menstrual cycle. The subject wore cotton training wear with longーsleeves, shorts, full trousers and either a zori or halfーsized boots. Main results were summarized as follows: 1)Rectal temperatures were kept higher throughout the whole experimental period in halfーsized boots than in a zori. 2)Temperatures and humidites were also higher in halfーsized boots. 3)All skin temperatures were also higher in halfーsized boots. These results suggest that how the feet are differently covered by two different types of shoes have profound influences on thermphysiological responses and cloting microclimate in walking and resting women.
