研究概要

本研究では物質の化学組成および構造をナノメ-タ-尺度で人工的に制御し、新しい特性と機能を有する材料の開発研究を行う。このため、金属、半導体、セラミックス材料を研究対象とする五つの研究班を組織し、互いに緊密な協力関係を保ちながら各班の独創的着想と経験的手法を生かした研究活動を開始した。また研究計画の立案、内容の調整、成果の評価を行うための総括班を設け、夏期の研究班全体計画会議、年度末の成果報告会に合わせて2回の会合を開いた。初年度においては、物質創製装置として数個乃至数千個の原子が結合したクラスタ-を高濃度のビ-ムとして取り出す装置を開発し、このクラスタ-を固体表面または内部の担持させた新材料の作製を試みた。また試料の評価装置として、光学応答特性を解析するためのフェムト秒レ-ザ-分光システム、微小領域解析用顕微鏡等を設置した。本研究の初年度における主な成果を要約すると以下の通りである。
研究班1:広範なサイズの遷移金属合金クラスタ-の作製方法を確立するため、イオンクラスタ-ビ-ム法によるFe/Ag複合膜ならびにメカニカルミリングと化学処理を組み合わせた方法によるNi、Co微粒子の作製を試みた。X線回折、電子顕微鏡組織観察、磁化測定、メスバウァ-スペクトル測定等を行い、fcc Feクラスタ-やナノスケ-ルbccNi、bccCo微粒子などの非平衡物質が形成できること、平衡相に比べ強磁性状態が不安定になることを明らかにした。
研究班2:半導体超微粒子及び金属クラスタ-について実験・理論の両面から物性研究を行った。半導体材料として、CuCl、PbI_2、HgI_2、BiI_3を主に取り上げ、アルカリハライド、ポリマ-、シリケ-トガラス、ゼオライト等の種々のマトリックス中に担持したナノスケ-ル物質を作成した。光学的性質、特に微粒子サイズに依存した励起子の量子サイズ効果の次元性等を実験理論両面から調べた。また、ゼオライト中のアルカリ金属Kクラスタ-の3次元配列構造について、磁気的性質を調べ、8K以下で強磁性を示す新ナノ構造物質の合成に成功した。
研究班3:プラズマ法でセラミックスーアルミニアムのナノ複合粒子を合成し、そのビッカ-ス硬度が500℃でも200PMaに達する耐熱軽量材料の開発に成功した。CVD(化学気相法)で有機金属化合物を原料に,臨界電流値が最高水準のナノ組織の高温酸化物超電導体の薄膜を合成し,その電流値の高い理由がナノサイズの不純物ピニングによることを解明した。Ln_4Al_2O_9(Ln=希土類元素)がマルテンサイト変態することを発見し、これらの化合物の変態を制御して組織をナノサイズ化することで高靭性あるいは形状記憶セラミックスの合成を試みた.また常圧法でA型,X型のゼオライトを合成しCdSおよびNiSの閉じ込めに成功し,物性の測定中である.
研究班4:低温走査プロ-ブ顕微鏡:LTSPM、原子配列同定アトム・プロ-ブ分析法:POSAPを開発し、更に依存現有の高性能FIーSTM(電界イオンー走査トンネル顕微鏡)に小型のMBEを導入して種々の新機能材料の原子レベルでの評価・解析を行なう共同研究を開発した。初年度は、組織の編成及び、他グル-プとの研究計画の調整を行ない、次世代の新素材として最近非常に注目されているC_<60>のSi(111),Si(100)清掃表面での吸着初期と薄膜形成過程における構造と電子状態の解析に成功した。
研究班5:高輝度レ-ザ-或はスパッタリングイオン銃と質量選別器を組み合わせて、大きさの揃ったクラスタ-ビ-ム発生させ、これを基板表面に堆積させてナノ構造薄膜を作成する装置を設計製作した。その場観察評価装置として高分解能電子エネルギ-損失分光装置、低速電子線回接装置、多チャンネル光学分光計、走査トンネル顕微鏡を組み合わせた測定装置を組み上げた。これらの装置を用いて、クラスタ-の基板への直接蒸着による単結晶薄膜を高品質且つ短時間に成長させることが出来た。また金、アンチモン等のクラスタ-をグラファイト表面に規則的に配列した新ナノ構造試料の作製に成功した。
