生物無機化学における構造と特異機能の研究

研究概要	生体系に存在する微量金属元素の役割の解明とその機能の化学モデル化を意図して、3年間にわたり研究を行ってきた。すなわち、(i)多重相互作用の生体系における意義(山内)、(ii)生体反応系における反応過程制御(森島)、(iii)生体反応系の精密解析(北川)、(iv)新反応系の機能(田中)、に焦点を絞り、研究を行ってきた。本研究(成果とりまとめ)は、上述の重点領域研究「生物無機化学」研究班の3年間にわたる研究成果を当初研究目標にそってとりまとめ評価すると共に、全体の成果を総合的に再配列、再検討して金属イオン関与生体反応における認識、反応過程、機能、メカニズムをより深く統一的に解析し、公表した。同時に、世界における生物無機化学研究の動向をふまえ、わが国における今後の研究の展開について考察を加えた。また、重点領域研究「生物無機化学」での多くの専門分野の研究者による第一級の研究成果を総合的,有機的にとりまとめ、学際的共同研究成果を世界に公表することを意図して、研究成果はもとより、研究形態もこれまでにない新しい可能性を開拓した。本研究による研究成果が効果的に活用され、生物無機化学および関連分野の発展に寄与すると同時に、医学などを通じて社会的貢献がなされることが期待される。重点領域研究「生物無機化学」は精密生体系モデル、生体分子間の弱い相互作用、高速反応過程、反応制御メカニズムの研究で世界に誇るユニークな成果をあげ、世界的に見て生体系錯体の構造と機能の研究に大きく貢献し、例えば酸素分子運搬体の銅タンパク質へモシアニンのモデル錯体の研究は世界のこの分野の研究を飛躍的に進展させた。これらの成果は本年度に開催された配位化学国際会議(ICCC),ICCCサテライトシンポジウムや全体会議にて次々と発表された。
