研究概要

重点領域研究の総括班としての活動は以下の通りである。
1.総括班会議の開催。合計4回の班会議を開催し、研究計画の立案シンポジウムおよびワークショップの計画実行、研究交流の企画を行った。さらに下部組織として実行委員会をもうけ、計画の実行に当らせると共に、研究成果の交流をはかり研究を推進するために、重点領域ニュースレターを刊行し、No.10からNo.14までを発刊した。また、「紙上討論」と題し、脳の時間コード、情報の多重表現など、いくつかのテーマでの討論の特集を開始した。
2.夏のワークショップ:研究を推進するため蓼科高原において、8月25〜27日の3日間、「思考と行動への挑戦」をテーマとするワークショップを開催した。班員を含め合計200名を越す参加者があり、脳の高次機能研究の戦略をめぐって、多くの研究発表と活発な討論が行われた。
3.第3回シンポジウムの開催:脳の高次機能の研究成果を公開する目的で、千里ライフセンターホールにおいて、「脳とニューラルネットー重点研究成果報告」と題するシンポジウムを開催した。参加者は300名にものぼり、たいへんな盛況であった。
なお、本重点領域研究の成果は成書として刊行される予定であり、その編集作業を開始している。
4.冬のワークショップ:夏に比べてより実質的な研究交流を行う目的で、1月11〜13日の3日間、蔵王温泉において冬のワークショップを開催した。参加人員は約60名で、実質的な討議が深夜におよぶまで行われた。
