研究概要	本領域は全体を1つの計画研究班とし、(1)ゲノム解析がもたらす大量かつ多様なデータのデータベースの問題と、(2)実験によるゲノム解析の最終産物である配列データの生物的意味解釈の問題とに新しい方法を確立する研究を行ってきた。今年度から5カ年計画の後期2年間に入り、これまでの研究成果の実用化に重点を置いている。(1)についてはマッピング支援システムLocus-inとContigMaker、シーケンシング支援システムGenomaticaを開発し提供した。また既存の分子生物学関連データベースのエントリ-間にリングづけを行い、統合して検索できるシステムWebDBgetとHyperGenomeを開発し提供した。(2)に関しては配列グループの特徴を自動的に見いだす機械学習アルゴリズムを開発し、とくにタンパク質の配列モチーフ検索・解析システムSMARTを開発し提供した。また酵素に関する知識を集約した酵素反応化合物データベースLIGANDを構築し提供した。他にも大量データの中から生物学の知識を体系化し、知識を利用する技術の開発に関する様々な基礎研究を行った。これらは国際的な学術誌と本領域が主催するゲノム情報ワークショップのProceedingsとして公表されている。実用化されたシステムはゲノムネットデータベースサービスの一貫として国内外の研究者に提供されており、その普及に関する活動は総括班で行われた。研究班会議は本領域の2つの主要な公開行事であるチュートリアルとワークショップの場で(7月9日と12月19日に)行い、公開の研究成果発表会をチュートリアルと同時に7月7〜8日に開催した。
