研究概要	本年度は、総括班7名(内計画研究4名)と公募班A01「ショウジョウバエを用いた研究」16名、A02「関連した他生物実験系を用いた研究」9名からなる組織で、領域全体の運営を行なった。11月17日〜19日に公開班会議を瀬戸市にある愛知県労働者研修センターで開催し、42題の発表と約120名の参加者があった。また、12月16日には神戸国際展示場で国際シンポジウム"Model Organisms in the Study of Higher Biological Functions"を開催し、スイス・バ-ゼル大のGehring博士始め5名の演者による講演が行なわれ多数の参加者があった。我が国でもショウジョウバエ分子生物学が確実に定着し、また、各研究者における研究のレベルも極めて高いものとなりつつあり、本年度で終了する本重点領域研究は、一応の成果を得たと言える。計画研究においては、西田はショウジョウバエMAPキナーゼキナーゼ(Dsor1)の優性活性化型突然変異をDNAレベルで明らかにすると共に、この突然変異によって表現型が回復または増強されるP因子挿入突然変異の検索から未知のシグナル伝達因子の同定を進めつつある。そして、既に明らかにしたものに新たな細胞周期因子やホメオボックスタンパク質などがある。また、Rafの温度感受性突然変異体の解析から、全発生過程を通じてのRafの多機能性を明らかにした。堀田は、エンハンサートラップ系統の検索から、中枢神経系形成に関連した新たな遺伝子を単離した。また、ファシクリンIIIの強制発現から筋・神経間のシナプス形成の特異性に関する新しい知見を得た。岡田は、初期胚での生殖細胞分化における極顆粒の構成要素ミトコンドリアrRNAの重要性を明確にしたが、その作用の分子機構の解明は今後の課題である。三宅は、機械刺激受容器形成に関するエンハンサートラップ系統によって規定されるtam遺伝子のcDNAクローンを分離し、tight junctionタンパク質をコードすることを明らかにした。
