昆虫の湿度・温度情報処理における異種感覚情報との統合に関する生理学・形態学的研究

研究概要	我々は、従来から、昆虫の個体の生存にとって、湿度と温度情報は、食物に関する情報と同様に、生死に係わる重要な情報と位置づけ、昆虫の湿度感覚と温度感覚を中心課題に据えて研究してきた。既に湿度受容器の初期過程、温度受要器の応答特性、および嗅受容器の応答スペクトラなどを明らかにしている。最近では中大脳(触角葉)での温度と湿度の情報処理について調べ、それぞれの情報処理に係わる神経細胞の湿度および温度刺激に対する応答特性とその細胞の形態をおおよそ明らかにした。しかしながら、従来の受容器に関する研究は、受容器の特徴を解明するために行われたものなので、中枢神経系による情報処理を調べる基礎的データとしては不十分な点があった。そこで用いた動物(ワモンゴキブリとミツバチ)の自然な棲息環境を近似した条件で改めて受容器の応答特性を検討した。その結果、刺激前に順応させた刺激強度(相対湿度の大きさおよび温度)によって同一の刺激強度に対する応答の応答の大きさが変化したが、基本的は応答パターンには特別な違いは認められなかった。中大脳には糸球体と呼ばれるたくさんの球状の構造があり、触角上の受容器の軸索はここで終末し、2次神経繊維にシナプスすることがわかっている。しかし、それぞれ応答特性の異なる受容器の軸索がいずれの糸球体に終末するかは、フェロモン受容器の場合以外は確かなデータがなかった。我々は、湿度および温度受容器、ヘキサン酸受容器の軸索をヘキサミン・コバルト等の染色剤を用いて電気泳動的に染色して、その中大脳での走行を検索したところ、それぞれ特定の糸球体に終末することが明らかになった。この事は、フェロモンのような特別の情報だけが特定の糸球体で情報処理されるのではなく、それぞれの情報がそれぞれ特定の糸球体に終末している事を示している思われる。
