研究概要

本年度はビサヤ内海域における流通網の展開、漁村共同体における祭祀、背後農村における社会経済構造に関する研究において、以下のような成果を得ることができた。
まずレイテ北部マリピピ島において、素焼き製品の製作法と流通網について調査を行なった。島の三つの工村では、男性が粘土を用意し女性が製作するという男女の分業により水瓶・こんろ・土鍋・植木鉢などが製作されている。その製法は伝統的な手法で、焼成は今でも野焼きである。製品を買い取った行商人(ビヤヘドール)は西ビサヤ各地、ミンダナオ沿岸、ビコール沿岸を船にて行商し、他方、材木・塩・しょうがなどを仕入れてくる。彼らは独自の交易網を持ち、その得意先関係は親子代々に継承される。また行商人と生産者との間には、ある種のパトロン-クライエント関係が醸成されている。パナイ島イロイロ州では、稲作農村の社会経済構造の変化の関する調査をおこなった。ポトタン町パホ村の悉皆調査、町の中心部でパホ村に農地を保有する地主へのインタビューを行なった結果、1970年代以降、農民は新農業技術の導入と農地改革を契機に生産性を向上させたが、1980年代中ごろより生産よりも教育への投資に関心を持ち、農地の小作権を質入れする形で手放していることが確認された。セブ州バンタヤン島では、村落共同体の祭祀と民間宗教者に関する調査をおこない、以下の知見を得た。
(1)スペイン統治期より支配者層に近い社会的地位にあった者はdakong tawo(いわゆるビッグマン)と呼ばれ、祭祀の対象である聖人像を特権的に所有した。時代が下るにつれてこの社会的特権は経済的優越性にとってかわられ、「成り上がり」層が祭祀の中心となった。この旧有力者層-新興勢力間の葛藤が、村の祭祀に反映される。
(2)民間宗教者がおこなう儀礼は、病治しや不漁なおしなど島民生活の細部に関わる。だがその方法や意義づけには夥しい変差が存在している。
