研究概要

1.ネアンデルタール人骨
デデリエ・ネアンデルタール人骨は今日まで類例のない、ほぼ完全な状態で発見されたが、手足の指骨等若干の部位が未発見であった。それは埋葬後にしばしば起こる地層の撹乱により骨が移動した結果と推測される。従って今年度は、人骨が埋葬されていた場所を中心にして、主として同一の地層を追って発掘面積を拡げ未発見骨格部位の発見に努めた。
結果として、同一個体の指骨、頭蓋の一部を新たに発見することに成功し、ますます完全な人骨となった。また、新たに別個体の歯を発見した。これにより、今回までに同洞窟で発見されたネアンデルタール人骨は、最小個体数にして、大人1体、子供3体となった。
2.石器
デデリエ・ネアンデルタール人骨と同一の地層で大量の旧石器が発見された。これまでの分類学的研究から、ルヴァロアタイプのポイントが優占する、タブン“B"タイプの中期旧石器であることが判明した。
同タイプの中期旧石器はこれまでにイスラエルのケバラ洞窟で典型的なネアンデルタール人骨(大人)と一緒に発見されている。
以上の結果から、中期旧石器時代に西アジア死海地溝帯に生存していた2つのタイプの初期人類、ネアンデルタール人とプロトクロマニオンの内で、ネアンデルタール人が制作使用していた石器がタブン“B"タイプであったことがますます確かになってきた。
