広角サブミリ波望遠鏡を用いた南天銀河のサーベイ観測による銀河系の全体構造の研究

研究概要

2年計画の調査研究の初年度にあたる本年度は、本研究の主要研究装置である60cm広角サブミリ波望遠鏡をチリのラシーヤにあるヨーロッパ南天天文台(ESO)に設置し、観測が開始できるよう準備を行った。東京大学のグループは、提供する望遠鏡のアンテナ部をチリのラシヤにあるESOの天文台キャンパスに移設した。移設に先立ち、60cm望遠鏡アンテナ部の点検・調整および必要個所の改良を行うとともに、スウェーデン、ドイツ、およびチリの共同研究者の協力を得て、望遠鏡の移設に関する手続きを進めた。また、スウェーデンのオンサラ天文台が提供する受信機フロントエンド部を東大の受信機後段につなぐための電子部品類(増幅器モジュール、周波数変換用ミキサ-)、および観測データを記録し日本へ送るためのメディアとして光磁気ディスクを調達した。望遠鏡および観測コンソ-ルの設置場所はESOおよびスウェーデン=ESOサブミリ波望遠鏡(SEST)がそれぞれ用意した。来年度、受信機の搭載等を完了させ、観測を開始する。
以上の望遠鏡の準備と並行して、観測データの評価、解析による研究の準備を行った。東大グループより研究者をアメリカ合衆国に派遣し、ハーバード・スミソニアン天体物理学研究所のグループがチリで取得した観測データの提供、およびその後の共同研究の方針その他について打ち合わせを行った。
