研究概要

本年度はハエ、ミツバチ、ワモンゴキブリ、ハンミョウを材料として脳のニューロン構築とシナプスの微細構造観察、生理学的実験、行動実験を行ない、昆虫の学習・記憶を神経系の可塑性による解明をめざした。
(1)ハエは脳のニューロン構築が最も詳しく調べられている昆虫である。加齢による脳のシナプス構造変化のモデルとして、ハエの同定可能なニューロンを変性させ、そのシナプスの微細構造の変化を検索している。
(2)ワモンゴキブリは視覚をてがかりに場所を学習、記憶することをまず行動学的に明らかにした。埋め込み電極により条件刺激に特異的に応答するニューロンが前大脳のキノコ体に存在することを明らかにした。キノコ体のニューロン連絡を切断することにより、記憶障害が見られる可能性を得た。さらに、脳の局所破壊の効果と、微小領域電気刺激の行動に対する影響から、脳の機能地図作成を試みている。
(3)ハンミョウの幼虫は巣穴で餌となる昆虫を待伏せする。この幼虫は提示された対象物に対して、明確な捕獲行動あるいは逃避行動を示す。まず、視覚行動の切換えにかかわる視覚神経機構と中枢機構を行動学的、神経解剖学的および神経生理学的に解析した。この視覚行動には慣れがみられ、これは最も単純な学習・記憶過程であり、視覚路あるいは脳のシナプスの可塑的変化によると考えられる。現在、この可塑的変化の実体を電気生理学的に追求している。
(4)ミツバチは昆虫のなかで、形態識別、学習、記憶など高次神経機能が発達した種である。ミツバチの図形学習の神経機構を解明するため、視覚路と脳の構造を調べ、視葉と前大脳の視覚介在ニューロンの応答特性と形態、分布を電気生理学的に解析している。視野内の位置と大きさによらず、物体の形にのみ応答する中枢のニューロンの有無を追求している。
