研究概要	酵素を越える一般性の高い光学活性キラル分子生成反応の化学的創成を目的とする本重点領域研究のキラル分子の不斉合成は現代精密有機化学の中で最もチャレンジングな領域として世界的に急速に進歩しつつあり、わが国が世界をリードしている。本研究では炭素-炭素結合反応を中心に不斉発現原理の有機化学的追及、高効率不斉触媒の開発、有用キラル分子の合成のための4つの主要研究項目、即ち、1)不斉空間の構築、2)典型金属系触媒的不斉合成、3)遷移金属系触媒的不斉合成、4)キラル分子の不斉合成を設け、それぞれを研究班とし、計画研究班員24名、公募研究班員31名合計55名の理・工・農・薬などの広い範囲の研究者を結集して強力に研究が進められた。これらの成果は平成5年12月、200名以上関連研究者が集まり行われた公開シンポジウム(講演者12名)および班会議で発表され、活発な討議が行われた。また、日本化学会秋季年会での「キラル分子の不斉合成」シンポジウムでは多くの研究者が会場に入れないほどの盛況であった。その他、いくつかの総説、著書も出版された。総括班会議は4回行われ、研究進行状況のチェック、評価など厳しく行われた。
