液体の低速電子衝突によるラジカルイオンおよび溶媒和電子の生成

研究概要

液体界面付近にある分子の微視的挙動を明らかにすることを目的とし、安定した連続液体流(層流)を真空中に導入する方法を開発した(液体分子線)。この方法と、共鳴多光子イオン化法や質量分析法とを組み合わせることにより、液体界面付近における溶質分子の不均一な溶媒和構造な反応過程を明らかにした。まず、ヨウ化ナトリウム-エタノール溶液の液体分子線に、紫外レーザーを照射すると、光吸収によるヨウ素負イオンからの電子脱離が起こり、その結果クーロン放出によって液体からイオンが放出される現象が観測された。これら放出イオンは、ナトリウムにアルコールの溶媒和したクラスターイオン、ヨウ化ナトリウム会合体にナトリウムイオンの付着したクラスターイオンなどである。ヨウ化ナトリウムの濃度が上昇するに従って(0.2-0.8M)、ヨウ化ナトリウム会合体クラスターイオン強度は増加するなどの結果は、溶液界面付近でヨウ化ナトリウムが会合体を形成していることを示唆している。
一方、同様な実験手法を用いることにより、光イオン化によって生成するイオンと溶媒分子との液体界面におけるイオン-分子反応が起こっていることが明らかになった。アセトフェノン-アルコール溶液の液体分子線に紫外レーザーを照射すると、1つのイオン種が選択的に生成する。このイオン種の溶媒依存性及び励起波長依存性から、光励起によって3重厚状態に励起されたアセトフェノンは、溶媒のアルコール分子から水素を引き抜き、さらに光を吸収してイオン化される。このイオン種に対して、周囲の溶媒分子が求核的に反応し、アセトフェノンにアルコールの付加したイオン種が選択的に生成していると考えることによって、このイオンの生成機構は説明される。
