研究概要	植物ホルモンは細胞伸長および細胞伸長の方向を制御することにより細胞一個一個の形を制御しているが、それだけでなく、細胞分化にも大きな影響を与えている。本研究は植物ホルモンの細胞伸長制御機構、伸長方向制御機構、細胞分化制御機構の解明に重点を置き行われたものである。植物ホルモンによる細胞伸長方向の制御には細胞質表層微小管が関与している。柴岡は、アズキ上胚軸の表皮細胞を用いて表層微小管の方向制御に関する研究を行い、オーキシンによる微小管の縦方向から横方向への方向変更が、蛋白質脱リン酸化酵素の阻害剤であるオカダ酸により阻害されることを見いだし、微小管の縦方向から横方向への方向変更に蛋白質の脱リン酸化が必要であることを明らかにした。馳沢は、タバコBY-2細胞を用いて微小管重合中心活性を持つ蛋白質の探索を行い、候補として、100kDaおよび60kDaの蛋白質を得た。園部は、タバコ培養細胞の脱液胞プロトプラストより得た蛋白質分画に、微小管を細胞膜に架橋させる活性があることを明らかにした。西谷は、シロイヌナズナのエンド型キシログルカン転移酵素遺伝子が、どの器官においても成熟した細胞で高い発現を示すことを明らかにし、この酵素が、二次細胞壁の構築に関与している可能性が高いことを示した。林は、ポプラ培養細胞において、オーキシンがエンド-1,4-β-グルカナーゼ活性を増加させること、また、細胞壁キシログルカンの可溶化を生じさせることを明らかにした。保尊は、アズキ上胚軸中に存在する新しいキシログルカン分解酵素を発見したが、この酵素はエンド型キシログルカン転移酵素であるが、より低分子のアクセプターを要求するため結果的に加水分解作用を持つことを明らかにした。福田は、ヒャクニチソウ単離葉肉細胞の管状要素細胞への分化の後期過程に起きる遺伝子発現に、細胞中で合成されるブラシノステロイドが必要であることを明らかにした。また、管状要素分化に伴って発現する遺伝子のアンチセンスDNAを導入した形質転換根を作成し、遺伝子機能の解析を試みた。
