研究概要	両生類の初期発生において最初の分子シグナルである中胚葉因子としてアクチビンがあるが、これの活性化を調節し結合しているものにフォリスタチンとビテロジェニンがある。ビテロジェニンのTGF-βに対する結合能と特異性が調べられた(浅島、杉野)。その結果、卵形成におけるアクチビンの蓄積のメカニズムに新しい方向がみい出された。BMPのドミナントネガティブ実験によっても二次胚が形成された(上野)。また神経形成に関して、Midkineによる神経分化に関してその発現部位が明らかになった(村松)。また新しい神経特異的発現遺伝子であるHMGとGSの2つの遺伝子のクローニングとその機能解析がなされた(浅島)。筋肉分化については未受精卵中に存在するマイオプラズムに特異的に反応する抗体が新しくとられ、その遺伝子解析がなされた(佐藤)。その他にホヤの筋分化と結びついてホヤのBrachyury遺伝子の単離と解析、この遺伝子と脊索および筋分化の相互作用についても明らかになった。未受精卵中にあって生殖細胞の決定に関与するミトコンドリアのlarger-RNAが単にショウジョウバエだけではなく、ツメガエルにもあてはまるメカニズムであることを明らかにした。
