手指運動遂行時におけるサル体性感覚野ニューロン活動の状況依存性

研究概要

手指運動時のサル一次体性感覚野には、運動遂行に伴う受容野への機械的刺激に先行して活動を開始するなど、受動的受容野特性よりもむしろ遂行中の運動に関連した活動パタンを示すニューロンが存在する。この様な、状況に依存したニューロンの活動特性の変化は、遂行すべき運動やそれによってひきおこされる感覚に対する注意や期待などの動物の心的要因の影響を受けることが予想される。本研究ではこの点に関する手がかりを得るために、心理学的に心活動をよく反映することが知られている瞳孔反応と運動遂行時や受動的刺激時の感覚運動野ニューロン活動との関係を検討した。
実験には手指を用いてボタンを操作することによって報酬を得る様に訓練したニホンザルを用いた。サルの遂行した運動は、ボタンに装着したセンサによって変位および力の方向と大きさを検出することによってモニタし、運動が一定の条件を満足したときにのみ報酬を与えた。大脳皮質体性感覚野から単一ニューロン活動を記録し、それらの受動的受容野特性および運動遂行時の活動特性を記録すると同時に瞳孔面積の変化を計測し、それらの間の時間関係を検索した。課題遂行中、手指運動に先行してほぼ常時瞳孔面積の拡大が引き起こされた。散瞳の程度は報酬獲得率の高い時期には大きく、実験終了近くで十分報酬を得た後では小さかった。したがって、瞳孔面積の変化はサルにおいても心活動の良い指標となることが示唆される。これまでに体性感覚野で、手指運動中の瞳孔反応に関連した活動あるいは活動の変調を示すニューロンが7個見いだされた。これらのニューロンの活動は運動に伴う何らかの心的要因の影響を受けることが示唆される。
