研究概要

がん遺伝子、がん抑制遺伝子の研究が進み、がんを遺伝子ならびにその産物の機能に基づいて理解することが可能になった。それと共に、細胞増殖のためのシグナル伝達や細胞周期制御の機構の解明が進んだ。一方で、がん関連遺伝子の探索を包含するゲノムプロジェクトの急展開が見られている。また遺伝子治療のベクター開発や、上記細胞増殖制御機構に関する知見を基にしたがんの新しい診断法や治療法の開発が急速に進んでいる。このような状況下、先端的がん研究の情報収集ならびに交換のために本年度は15名の班員を米国に派遣した。がん発症と進展に関するより深い理解を得るために、がん遺伝子・がん抑制遺伝子の機能解析を中心とする、シグナル伝達制御ならびに細胞死の分子機構を含む細胞周期制御に関するテーマで3名の研究者、転移の仕組み等のがんの悪性化の機構解析に1名、新しい展開を見せようとしているEBウイルスによる発がん機構をはじめとするウイルス発がんのテーマで4名、がんにおけるgenetic instability等DNAレベルの発がん研究に関するテーマで3名、疫学的研究に基づくがんの予防や近代的治療の観点から3名、そしてゲノム情報の処理に関わる研究者1名がこの派遣プロジェクトに組織された。特にがん遺伝子ならびにがん抑制遺伝子の機能や遺伝子導入法に基づくがん治療の分野は発展途上であり、重点的に情報収集を行う必要がある。今年度はがん遺伝子産物等のシグナル伝達における役割、がん抑制遺伝子の機能や細胞死の分子機構、新しいがん治療法を開発するための情報交換を行った。またがん研究の新しい一面である、ゲノム情報の解析やがんにおけるgenomic instabiity、EBウイルス発癌の研究での情報交換、共同研究で進展があった。また新しい試みであるがんの遺伝子治療に関しても、免疫療法とあわせた手法が米国で試行されておりこの分野にも我が国の医師・研究者を派遣し情報収集した。
