研究概要

平成8年度は日本側から、大場史憲、鳴瀧則彦、山根八洲男、村山長、森川克美、松原行宏の5名が英国ノッチンガム大学を訪問し、ノッチンガム大学のWilson教授およびGindy教授等とこれまでに行った調査の結果について検討・意見交換し、本研究のとりまとめにかたについて双方の調整を行った。以下概要を示す。
本研究では日本から英国に進出した企業としてトヨタ、コマツ、松下電器産業、英国の伝統的企業ロールスロイス、ホルセット、さらにホルセットと技術提携しほぼおなじ製品を製作している日本企業フコクを選びそれぞれの工場を訪問、聞き取り調査およびアンケート方式による生産システムの実状及び意識調査を行った。なお、多くの企業では聞き取り調査には応じていただいたものの、アンケート調査では企業側の方針もあり、実際にアンケートに記入回答を得たのは3社(日本の国内企業、同社の英国進出企業および英国の伝統的企業)にとどまった。
そこで、比較検討が可能なアンケート結果について比較をおこなうこととした。詳細は別刷報告書に述べるが特徴的な点を幾つか示すと、
(1)調査企業はいずれも自社の生産システムをCIMと認識していない。
(2)日本企業は英国企業と比較すると全般的に自動化推進に肯定的である。
(3)英国企業は労働コストの面からみて自動化推進に肯定的でない。
(4)英国企業は危険な作業や劣悪な環境の作業を自動化推進のに挙げているのに対し、日本企業では労働者人工の減少を自動化推進の理由としてとらえている
(5)調査した企業ではいずれも各個別の部門において自動化・コンピュータ化は推進するが全体の統合化には消極的
(6)調査した企業ではいずれも自動化・省人化が生産性向上につながると考えていない
