研究概要	植物器官の代謝機能や形態形成は、転写制御因子や情報伝達因子などを介した制御ネットワークで結びつけられた多数の遺伝子の働きによって決められているが、重要な制御因子の遺伝子や遺伝的制御ネットワークが明らかにされた例はまだ僅かである。本重点領域研究『植物器官プラン』では、器官に特有な代謝機能の発現や器官の分化や形態形式に関わる遺伝的制御ネットワークを、モデル植物の分子遺伝学的研究やトランスジェニック植物を使った遺伝子機能解析などを導入して解析し、形態形成と代謝機能の連動、器官分化の制御といった植物の成長における高次調節機構を探る分子的基礎を得ることを目指した。本総括班では、こうした研究を重点領域として推進することで最大限の相乗効果が得られるような研究環境整備を目的とし、平成9年度には班員の全員参加による全体会議を2回開催して集中的な討議を行うと共に、「Plant Organ Plan Research Network」をNo.15からNo.19まで発刊して情報交流を推進した。さらに、特定分野についての討議を深めるためにワークショップ『細胞形態と細胞間相互作用』を開催し、若手ワークショップも例年通り活発な会となった。多くの班員が関連学会などでの関連シンポジウムにオ-ガナイザーや演者として本領域研究の成果の一端を公開したが、研究成果公開促進費が採択になり「大学と科学」公開シンポジウム『植物の生長-遺伝子から何が見えるか-』を平成9年11月15,16日の両日に開催し、延べ千数百名の参加者を集めて研究成果の一般への公開と啓蒙を行った。
