研究概要

がんの発生要因を評価するため、全国6市46町の住民12.5万人について追跡調査中である。1994年度は966名の死亡があり、累積死亡数は3771例となった。なお転出2127例あった。現在までに死因が確認された3480例の内訳は新生物1128(32.4%)、男678、女450、全がん中、胃22.7%、気管支・肺17.3%、肝10.6%、大腸8.6%、膵6.3%、その他である。全国に比べ胃がやや低く、肝がやや高率である。これは西日本の対象が若干多いためである。発生要因別に見てみると喫煙者は高いリスクを示す。
今後10年間の死亡を推計すると、累積死亡は11,700(10%)、累積転出率は15,100(12.9%)であり、10年後約80%のコホートが残存する。多発する部位での解析は十分可能である。ただ都会人口が少ないので、産業企業体の成績などでで補正したい。
5年目には約5万人に中間調査を実施し、生活様式や罹病状況、検診頻度などについて問診した。
罹病調査は約1/2の地域で実施中であるが、登録精度の差を検討中である。
倫理委員会では班員の倫理感について調査し、集計し結果とその公表の可否を討議した。
なお、ベースラインデータ集計委員会とがん登録グループ会議を開催した。がん登録の精度向上と均質性の確保などについて討議した。また全体解析とは別にがんの部位別研究グループを作り、より精細な研究を進める準備を始めた。
Cohort Newsletterを発刊し、班員間の情報交換とさらに密な連携を計った。
その他各班員それぞれにコホート地域での独自の研究を進めている。
顧問委員を委嘱し、助言と評価を受けている。
