研究概要

長寿命の放射性廃棄物を転換・消滅して短寿命化し、遠い未来のリスクを大幅に軽減するための方法を究明し、そのシステムを設計して特性を調べるとともに、核燃料サイクルにおけるその位置付けまで検討する研究を推進した。本年度は3年計画の中間でもあり、後述の分担研究に加えて、「新しい消滅処理法の探求」および「消滅処理の問題点とそのための研究開発」について、前者は中沢正治・郷農靖之両班員、後者は平川直弘班員を中心に調査を行った。いずれも難しい課題であるが調査が進行した。さらに、核燃料サイクルバックエンド基礎化学のグループと合同で「核燃料サイクルと消滅処理」に関する研究会を開催し、有益な議論を交わすことが出来た。
各分担課題の成果は著しいが、以下に極く簡単にまとめて示す。1.核分裂関連では、マルチモード過程の実験的検証、^<243>Amの核分裂断面積測定などが行われた。2.核破砕関連でも実験と解析が進行した。とくに、GeV陽子のγ線生成断面積が求められた。3.転換消滅システムでは、昨年に続き設計研究が進められ、いくつかは国際会議で発表された。また、京大臨界集合体で実験が開始したことが特記できる。4.燃料材料に関連することは、山脇道夫班員が新たに加わり、研究が進展しつつある。また、溶融塩・液体金属を用いる高温化学分離研究も進められた。5.核燃料サイクルにおける消滅処理について、詳しい解析と位置付けがなされた。この問題は全体会議でも何回か取り上げられ、白熱した議論も行ったが、それはまとめるに至っていない。最終年度には、そのようなことも含め、広く議論を起こしたい。
