研究概要	生体の恒常性は極めて精緻な調節機構によって維持されており、そこでは種々の生理活性物質が重要な役割を果たしている。これらの作用はレセプターの構造や分布の特異性等によって制御されその機構も分子レベルで解明されつつあるが、全体の調節においてはこのような生化学的・静的な因子だけでなく、さらに生理活性物質の生態内での動的な動きの空間的・時間的制御との組み合わせによって精密に調節されている。このことは特にこれら生理活性物質やその関連物質を医薬品として治療に用いる場合に、体内動態の制御が必須条件となることを意味しており、こうした認識のもとに近年薬物療法の世界では、最も望ましい濃度-時間パターンのもとに薬物を作用点に到達させることにより最適治療効果を得ることを目的とする薬物投与形態Drug Delivery Systemの創製に関する研究が活発に進められている。しかしながらこれを実現するためには、薬物の作用や動態の分子機構の解明等医学・薬学領域の研究から、動態機構の理解に基づき生体動態システムを構築しその制御技術、素材を開発する工学的アプローチまで、幅広い領域の研究の統合が必要であり、既存の研究組織でこれに応え得るものは存在しない。そこで本研究では、関連領域の研究者を共通の問題意識のもとに有機的に結び付けた新しい研究体制を重点領域研究として組織する事を目的とし、その準備段階として生体内における物質動態を支配する諸因子の抽出とその系統的整理、および体内動態の制御に利用可能な技術の用意を目的として基礎的な調査研究を行った。その結果、基礎生物学に対しては生体恒常性維持の機構を物質動態の面から解析する道を開くための基礎的情報を、また工学に対しても生体内における物質動態の精密制御という新しい領域を開拓するための基礎的情報を整理することができた。
