研究概要	本総合研究(B)は,多彩で多様な機能発見をするπ-電子系有機化合物を基礎的観点から見直し,これまでにない機能を発現する新規な分子骨格の提案に結実させる準備・調査として位置づけられる.本研究では,この目的を達成するため,理論化学者・合成化学者・物性物理学者からなる15名の研究組織を作成し,平成6年度中に全体会議を2回行い,うち1回は公開シンポジウムとした.後者では,100名以上の参加を得て,この分野への関心の高さが反映された.また,サブテーマ毎の分科会を計10回開催し,調査・研究の内容の詳細な検討を行った.これらの過程において,研究組織以外の参加者を含めた討議も随時行ない,調査結果の内容を深めた. 以上の準備・調査の結果,今後は次の5つの主要研究項目について研究班を設け重点領域研究に発展させることが重要かつ緊急であるとの認識を得た.(1)研究項目A「π-電子系機能分子の基礎理論」量子化学に基づく新しい電子状態理論モデルをを提案し,電子スペクトルなど分子の機能予測の基礎となる物理的・化学的性質の理論を定式化する.(2)研究項目B「π-電子系機能分子の分子設計」新しい設計理論(例えば,Chemical Softnessなどの新概念)を高精度分子設計に結びつけるシミュレーション手法について研究する.(3)研究項目C「π-電子系機能分子の合成」π-電子系分子がもつ機能,たとえば,光吸収,発光,非線形性や導電性などを,目的に応じて組み合わせ,環境応答機能分子等を予見的に設計・合成するための方法論を研究する.(4)研究項目D「π-電子系機能分子のダイナミクス」外部刺激がトリガーとなって,相変化や形状変化をもたらす動的新規機能分子を設計・創成する方法論を研究する.(5)研究項目E「π-電子系機能分子の複合機能」化学構造と物理的諸性質(たとえば光学的性質や各種エネルギー)との相関性を上記設計理論に基づいて解明することにより,二分子膜やLB膜などの複合機能分子材料としての飛躍的な発展を計る. 上記の各項目には,萌芽的研究もすでに多く含まれており,これら新分野がさらに発展して高次機能分子の新しいフロンティアを切り拓くことが期待される.
