日本海の深層循環のラグランジュ測流による研究

研究概要	日本海は対馬海峡から黒潮が流入し高温高塩分水が表層にあり、海峡の水深が小さいため深層水は外からは流入しない。シベリア沖で形成され300mより深い層には温度0-1℃、塩分34.1の均質な日本海固有水が分布している。日本海固有水の運動は密度分布に基づく力学計算による評価が困難で、流速の直接測定も少なく、また、海底地形による支配が大きく広い範囲の流動が解明されていない。旧ソ連による放射性廃棄物の海洋投棄がなされ日本海の循環に対する関心が高まっている。広域の海水循環を明らかにするために海水とともに流動する中立フロートを投入し、その漂流経路を調べるラグランジュ測流が有効である。中立フロートは音響信号を用いるソ-ファーフロートが四国海盆の中深層循環の解明に用いられた。当初、日本海におけるソ-ファーフロートシステムの運用を予定したが、音速場の評価から受信局を150m層に置くことが漁業活動によって切断されるので不可能なことが分かった。次に海面を漂流するブイに抵抗ドローグを付けて人工衛星で追跡することを検討した。風や上層流の影響が大きく、300m層の日本海固有水の流動の評価の精度が低いこと、そして漁業活動でドローグの接続ケーブルが切断されるので採用できないことになった。検討の結果、一定期間測流層を漂流し、1日間浮上して人工衛星で位置決めを行い、再度沈降して測流層に戻るアリスフロートが研究目的に合致することになった。10日目に浮上するもの、20日目に浮上するものの2台を入手したが、冬季のため日本海に出かける観測船が得られなかった。平成7年春季に投入して追跡することにしている。
