開殻系有機ホスト分子の開発とその包接体結晶を用いた分子磁性に関する基礎的研究

研究概要

固体中に開殻系有機分子を規則的に配置し、その規則性を保ったまま配置を変化させることが出来れば、その構造と固体の磁気的性質を明らかにすることにより、ラジカル分子間の距離、角度などの構造因子と分子間に働くスピン-スピン相互作用の大きさの関係が明らかとなる。本研究では新規に開殻系有機ホスト分子を開発し、種々の溶媒を取り込んだ包接結晶を作成し、それらの構造と磁性を明らかにすることを目的とした。
標的とした分子は、申請者等が新規に開発したホスト分子である2,5-bis(9-hydroxyfluorenyl)-thieno〔3,2-b〕thiopheneのフルオレニル部の4位を、4-amino-TEMPO又は4-hydroxy-TEMPOをアミド,エステル結合でそれぞれ連結した化合物1(アミド体)、化合物2(エステル体)であり、これらは9-oxo-4-fluorenyl chlorideを出発物質として合成することが出来た。
得られた化合物1、2は質量スペクトル等で生成を確認したが、当初予想したよりも安定性に欠け、二つのヒドロキシル基が母体ホストに比べ脱離しやすく、通常の溶液状態、固体状態でキノノイド体を含む複雑な混合物を与えた。比較的純度を高めた試料を用いてESRを測定してみたものの、複数のラジカル種が存在することが観測された。また、種々の有機溶媒に対する溶解度が、母体ホスト分子に比べ非常によく、上述の不純物等の存在もあり、単結晶は得られていない。
以上のことより、開殻系新規ホスト分子の開発には成功したが、当初目的とした構造と磁性の関連を明らかにするには至らなかった。しかしながら、より安定な新規ラジカルホストの開発を検討する過程で、新規ラジカル分子、ホスト分子が得られ、それらの包接挙動、磁気的挙動に関していくつかの知見が得られた。
