研究概要

気候モデルの基礎となる大気大循環モデル、海洋大循環モデルの開発を終了した。大気大循環モデルに関しては、気候値の海面水温、及び1979年から89年までの実際の海面水温を与えたsimulationを行った。結果は、他のモデルと比べて遜色ない性能を示すことが出来た。放射や雲・降水の取り扱い改良されているモデルなので、今後の地球温暖化の研究に有効と思われる。更に結合モデルの準備のために、赤道域を中心とした大気海洋モデルも40年間分計算し、又混合層モデルを結合してCO2倍増時の温暖化実験を行った。エルニーニョに対応する変動もsimulateした。
海洋モデルに関しては、海洋大循環の基本的特徴を再現することに成功したと共に、生物地球化学過程を組み込んだ生物化学大循環モデルの開発も行い、簡単な生物モデルによって、海洋中の酸素やアルカニティなどが良く再現出来ることを明らかにした。
中層大気モデルに関しては、大気潮汐の砕波の効果も取入れたモデルの開発を終了した。大気のlow-frequencyの変動に関する研究では、数値モデルの非線形構造を解析して分岐図を作成して、観測されるブロッキングなどの天候レジームの力学的基礎を明らかにした。
成層圏の解析では、1980年代10年間のデータを用い成層圏の温度の長期的な冷却化の傾向を明らかにした。又、成層圏のオゾンの変動の解析では、1984-1989年の5年間の変動をSAGE IIから得られたデータを用いて研究した。その結果、年変化、QBO、ENSOに対応するオゾンの変動を見いだした。特に20km以上ではQBOに対応する変動が大きく、20km以下ではENSOに対応する変動が大きいことが見いだされた。
