研究概要

本研究では今年度も、5つの研究班と1つの評価班による研究組織で研究を実施した。先ず年度初めに評価班を含めた全体会議を行い、今年度の重点研究項目の確認と研究実施方法に関する具体的な討論を行った。成果発表は翌年1月に行われた。
各研究班独自の研究及び各班間の協同研究により以下の研究成果が得られた。金属ナノ粒子の研究では昨年に引続き、金属マトリックス中にナノスケールの磁性体微粒子を分散させたFe/Ag、Fe/Cuグラニュラー物質を作製し、その構造と物性の解析を高分解能電子顕微鏡解析、EXAFS、磁化、磁気抵抗、メスバウァー測定を通して行った。その結果、磁化がクラスター内部の強磁性Fe原子磁気モーメント、磁気抵抗はクラスター表面のFe原子磁気モーメントに支配されていることを定量的に明らかにした。又、希土類元素を含む新機能グラニュラー物質の作製と評価を行った。ナノ粒子の光学非線形の研究では既に完成した非線形光学測定装置を用いてCuCl、BiI_3、Ge、CdTeナノ粒子のポンププローブ分光を低温で行った。CdTeについては、ナノ粒子特有の大きな光学非線形性を確認し光演算素子として実用化の可能性を示した。またナノスケールの光学測定を可能とするフォトンSTMに関して共鳴光を利用する高感度な新しい方式を考案した。新物質として結晶質、非晶質材料に続く第3の材料と言われる準結晶をとりあげ、1300MPaという既存の材料を越える高い引っ張り強度を持つAl-V-Tm-Ce合金、優れた永久磁石特性を示すFe90Nd7B3合金の開発に成功した。準結晶、固体表面に担持されたナノ粒子について本研究で特に開発された原子配列同定アトムプローブ法、EELS-STM、FI-STM、MBE-STMを駆使した実験により新しい電子機能の開拓を行った。又、IV族籠状ナノクラスター、アルカリ金属、Fe、Ni微粒子をゼオライト中に内包させた物質について数々の新しい材料的電子機能を見出した。
