研究概要	この調査研究の最終目標である超高エネルギー領域の素粒子実験を陽子・陽子衝突型加速器で実現する欧州合同粒子物理学研究所(CERN)のLHC加速器計画が1994年12月に正式に承認され建設がスタートした。それに伴い、シリコン半導体検出器などを使う大型測定器実験提案「アトラス」の検討と設計が、日本を含む31カ国からの参加研究者により大きく進んだ。1996年1月にはアトラス実験も正式に承認された。平成7年度は米国、欧州の研究者と競争/協力しながら以下の研究を進めた。 (1)高エネルギー研の12GeV陽子ビームラインに放射線照射装置を設置し予想通りの放射線量を得、フォイル法による放射線レベル測定ができることを示した。 (2)この放射線照射装置を利用して、各種のシリコンマイクロストリップ検出器の放射線照射を7月と11月に行った。 (3)照射されたサンプルに冷却パイプをつけてサンプルの温度を変えて調べたところ、世界で初めて予言されている熱的暴走現象を観測した。 (4)照射されたサンプルを米国に送り読み出し電子回路をマウントし、再び日本に送り返して12GeV陽子シンクロトロンのテストビームで性能テストした。 (5)冷却パイプのついたシリコン検出器モジュールを作り、冷却温度の変化によりモジュールがどれほど変形するか、オックスフォード大学のレーザー干渉計を使って調べた。30度程度の温度変化でも十分変形が小さいことがわかった。これらの一連の研究開発の発表および国外の研究者との情報交換は、たとえば95年10月に広島で行われた第2回半導体検出器の国際ワークショップで多数の参加者を得て、活発に行われた。研究は順調に進んでいる。
