研究概要

本国際学術研究の採択以来、植物個体の生長制御と細胞機能制御の分子生物学的解析に取り組むNUとUCBのメンバーの間での電子メール番号の交換などによって、かねてより交流のあった者同士の間のみならず、そうでなかった者の間でも頻繁に情報交換が行われ、新たな共同研究が開始されるようになった。ソースとシンク機能の制御に係わるCa^<2+>_-情報伝達に関する共同研究について、NUの中村はタバコ葉のカルシウム依存性プロテインキナーゼ(CDPK)が多重遺伝子に支配された多型成分よりなり、糖レベルによって発現が制御される特定成分が糖による遺伝子発現制御に関与する可能性があることを明らかにし、またUCBのJonesはオオムギ種子のアリューロン層の機能発現に特定のカルモジュリン分子が関与する可能性を示唆した。また、NUの杉山は葉での硝酸による遺伝子発現制御にCa^<2+>_-情報伝達が関与することを示した。細胞内Ca^<2+>の上昇をもたらす機構についても、UCBのJonesとNUの前島によるCa^<2+>_-トランスポーターや液胞内Ca^<2+>結合タンパク質に関する研究が進展した。情報伝達因子に関して、NUの町田は組織の切断が短時間の内に46-kdのプロテインキナーゼを活性化することを見出し、UCBのGruissemがイノシトールリン酸代謝酵素遺伝子を単離するなどの成果を得た。また、シロイヌナズナを使った分子遺伝学的解析によって、UCBのFischerは胚発生に関与するBell1遺伝子がホメオドメインタンパク質をコードすることを明らかにし、NUの町田、中村なども個体生長に関わる興味深い突然変異株を分離している。このように、相互派遣計画は当初予定から多少の変更を余儀なくされたが、頻繁な情報交換によって共同研究は順調に進行した。
