研究概要	(1)「シロアリの多様化プロセス」ワークショップ国内の幅広い関連分野の研究者を招き、研究の現状と国際共同研究の今後の方針を検討した。内容:1)シロアリの系統と生物地理学のレビュー、2)分子系統に関する研究のレビューと今後の展望、3)シロアリ自身のセルラーゼの精製とDNAの分析の成果報告、4)下等シロアリにおけるヘミセルロースの分解に関する成果報告、5)ルーメンにおける研究成果の報告と、シロアリ-微生物共生系の比較研究の展望。 (2)シロアリ-微生物共生系の系統比較とシロアリの系統進化研究協力者(井上徹志、京大非常勤研究員)をシドニー大学(受入:Dr.Slaytor)に派遣、下等シロアリのセルロース分解系について共同研究が進められ(3月)、下等シロアリも高等シロアリ同様、シロアリ自身がセルロース分解に関与するという結論が得られた。また分担者(松本)、北出(研究協力者)をアメリカ自然史博物館(受入:Dr,Grimardi)に派遣し、分子系統解析の現状と今後の展開を議論した。さらにオーストラリアにおいて、下等シロアリの系統進化を解析するためのサンプルを採集した。 (3)シロアリの多様化と生態系機能安部、武田、杉本をタイ(サカエラート,チェンマイ)に10-11月に派遣(受入:Dr.Nit)植生、人為的撹乱の異なるところでシロアリの組成、多様性、食性、現存量、メタン生成量および植物遺体の分解過程についてDr.Kirtibutrと共同研究が行われた。 (4)土を食べるシロアリの適応放散と共生系の進化過程安部、東、松本、井上、陀安(研究協力者)をオーストラリア(ダ-ウィン)に2-3月に派遣し、現地において、Termes groupのシロアリのセルロース分解酵素活性、メタン生成量が比較された。また、空中窒素固定、酢酸生成、分子系統分析用サンプル収集が行なわれ、Soil Feederへの適応放散過程の解明が始められた。
