研究概要

我々は10年ほど前から、それぞれ独立に有機非線形光学材料に関する研究を行ってきた。しかし、実際の素子化に対しては、1人の研究者にとってあまりにも研究の幅が広すぎると感じていた。そこで日本における最もアクティブな研究者が従来の垣根を取り払いアイデア、試料、ファブリケーションのノウハウをお互いに提供し合わなければならないという結論にいたった。本申請領域研究においては、(1)波長のマニピュレーション、(2)振幅のマニピュレーション、(3)波面のマニビュレーション、の3分野について研究を推進し、新材料創製→新プロセス技術開発→デバイス設計を一貫してできるよう、各研究グループの間の調整を行うと共に、従来までの研究成果をデータベース化して研究情報を各グループが円滑にアクセスできる新システムを開発することを目的とした。
総括班は領域全体での研究の取りまとめと評価を行うのみならず、全体会議、班会議、電子メール、広報を通じて各研究グループと密接に連絡を取り、分子設計および合成とデバイス作製に関する研究の進展状況を迅速に参加者全体にフィードバックした。また、各研究者が現在の非線形光学材料や素子技術について簡単に情報が得られるように非線形光学材料データーベースを作製した。文献ソースとしてはケミカルアブストラクトより1次資料を抽出し、それらより抜き出した2次資料からデータの加工・分析、単位変襖、図麦入力等を行った。リレーショナルデータベースを用いて非線形光学材料の構造、非線形光学定数、屈折率、測定法、デバイスの概要などがキーワードや物質名、研究者名より、簡単に検索できるようにした。また、測定に用いた参照物質の非線形光学定数を統一することにより、これまで単純に比較できなかった非線形光学定数の大小関係をきちんと評価できるようになった。総括班では今までに蓄えた情報をインターネット対応にし、研究者がアップデ-トな情報をいつでも引き出せるようにするのみならず、自分自身のデータを登録できるセルフグローイングデータベースを構築した。
