生命の複雑さと歴史性をとらえる多対多の理論の構築

研究概要

昨年の研究会を通して多様性と再帰性の問題が生命システムを考える上で重要であると認識された。これを踏まえて、個体と全体の関係、生物集団の社会性、やわらかな再帰性の3つの話題を中心として密度の高い研究集会を行なうとともにそれぞれのテーマでの研究を進めた。研究会ではまず、これまでの生物への理論的アプローチを概観し何が欠けているかを議論した。郡司は内部的な立場から生命の理論を構築することを進め、田崎は自然現象とモデルの対応のあり方についての考察を行なった。ついで、共生や生態系を例にして相互作用のもたらす多様さと複雑さを議論した。甲山は森林の動的な複雑さを調べた。一方、高木はガウゼの古典的実験をとらえなおしてこういった相互作用の重要性を指摘した。
しかし、進化を通してあらわれてきた生命を議論する際には、かならずしも現存する生物を記述しているだけでは真の理解には到達できない。宝谷はリポソームと細胞骨格からなる人工細胞システムを作ることでこの方向の研究を進め、柳川はマリグラヌ-ルの実験によって生命の起源での動的な多様さを調べている。このような中から、再帰的な構造としての現在の遺伝子型の生命が現われて来たかは理論的に重要な問であり、その方向に向けての研究が金子、池上らにより進められている。さらに、こういった問題意識をふまえて四方は生命を構成的に捉えるべく生命創製の実験を進めている。
一方、現在の生物では発生過程に、相互作用と再帰構造の生成は見られている。桂は遺伝子の相互作用の観点からの研究を進めている。また、研究会では発生における相互作用の問題の典型として等価群の問題が議論された。
かなり広い分野、しかも実験と理論にまたがる、新しい研究プロジェクトであったが、この2年を通じて共通する問題意識が明確化され、今後の研究方向を考えて行くうえで有用な示唆が得られたと考えられる。
