研究概要

本年度は各研究項目において、観測機器の製作・調整が最終段階に入り、また初期宇宙に関する大きな研究成果も得られつつある。以下に各項目の研究成果を示す。
1.軟X線および硬X線を用いた深宇宙探査
硬X線検出器の設計が固まり、振動試験および熱試験が無事に行われた。その成果を踏まえ、ASTRO-E衛星に搭載する実機の製作が進められている。「あすか」を用いた観測的研究では、銀河団の重元素量が外側に向けて低下していること、銀河団の中心付近の重力ポテンシャルが自己相似な形をもつことなどが発見された。
2.活動銀河の多波長モニター観測による宇宙論
望遠鏡架台を購入し、主鏡の研磨を開始した。望遠鏡設置はハワイ大学ハレアカラ観測所の既存ドーム利用を決定し、施設使用協定締結の最終協議に入った。遠隔自動観測の制御装置や天候・雲量監視装置、それらを統合するシステムの製作を開始した。多波長カメラは光学系や電気系を調製し、広視野カメラは光学系と機械系を設計した。観測天体選定の為、宇宙研と木曽観測所で350個の活動銀河核を可視赤外域で測光観測した。
3.遠方銀河サーベイデータの解析による観測的宇宙論
天体カタログ作成のためのソフトウェアの性能試験を行ない、仕様を満たしていることを確認した。観測に使用する光ファイバーの支持系の製作とファイバーのテストを行なった。測光望遠鏡のCCDカメラ性能試験と調整を行なった。既存の観測装置で得たデータベースを用いて、ハッブル定数の改訂、銀河の光度分布からバルジとディスクの成分比を推定する方法、矮小銀河の性質、銀河団に属する銀河の光度関数などの研究を行なった。
4.サブミリ波望遠鏡による中性炭素原子の銀河広域観測
可搬型サブミリ波望遠鏡設置台の制作を行い、これまでに制作してきたアンテナ架台、主鏡,レドームと組み合わせて、望遠鏡システムとして完成した。これを国立天文台野辺山観測所構内に仮設置し、受信機、分光計、計算機システム等と組み合わせ、立ち上げを進めた。その結果、345GHzのCO(3-2)のスペクトル線の観測にわが国で初めて成功した。望遠鏡の校正を進めつつ、10数個の巨大分子雲でCO(3-2)の広域観測を行った。
5.粒子線観測による宇宙初期・素粒子現象の探求
改良した飛行時間測定用ホドスコープとエアロゲルチェレンコフカウンタをBESS検出器に搭載し、カナダ・リンレークで宇宙線観測を行った。データ収集システムの高速大容量化により平成7年度の約2.1倍の統計量を蓄積し、宇宙線反陽子を3GeV以下のエネルギー領域で約400例観測した。さらに広いエネルギー範囲での反陽子の測定を可能にするため、屈折率1.02のエアロゲルを製作し、カウンタに搭載してテストを行った。
6.高感度ボロメーターによる暗黒物質の直接検出
ボロメータによる暗黒物質探しは地上の実験室におけるLiFボロメータ(8個×21g)の開発が終了した。鋸山地下実験室に環境放射線を遮るための重遮蔽を設置し、ヘリウム再凝縮装置を含む希釈冷凍機からなるボロメータ一式を移設、現地での運転を開始した。超伝導電磁石による太陽axion検出実験は転換領域を真空にした広帯域の太陽追尾観測を行ない、太陽の年齢からくる制限「solar limit」を越える感度を得た。
7.数値シュミレーションによる初期宇宙の探求
星の進化・超新星爆発・銀河の化学力学進化の数値シミュレーションによって、次のような結果を得た。1)高赤方偏移のIa型超新星の性質が、白色矮星の親星の重元素量にどう依存しうるのかを明らかにした。2)楕円銀河でのIa型超新星の出現率を赤方偏移の関数として求めた。3)楕円銀河を取り巻く高温ガス中の重元素からの輝線が共鳴散乱によって受ける影響を明らかにした。4)GRAPE-SPHにより、球状星団の形成のための条件を求めた。
高赤方偏移におけるライマンブレイク銀河と呼ばれる天体の空間分布に対するシミュレーションを行ない、それらが10の21乗太陽質量以上のハロ-の天体に対応するならば、標準モデルの予言と矛盾しないことを示した。非球対称な超新星爆発にともなう元素合成モデルの予言を詳細に調べ、1987A、カシオペアA、太陽近傍に対して観測されている元素の存在量と比較した。
