研究概要

1993年にネアンデルタール幼児全身骨格が発見された地点を中心に発掘範囲を拡げた。今年度調査最大の収穫は次の2点である。
1.ネアンデルタール人の炉址の発見
中期旧石器時代の地層中で多数の炉址が露出した。直径約30cmの範囲に黒色〜灰色の灰が集中し、堆積中には黒く焼けた動物骨片が混ざるという特徴を示し、骨片の多くに石器によるカートマーク(解体痕)が検出された。数多くの炉址が、しかも良好な状態で発見された例は初めてであり、ネアンデルタール人の居住形態、洞窟内での行動パターン、洞窟の利用形態等の問題を考察する上で重要な証拠になるものとして極めて注目される。
2.動物組成の復元
発見された動物骨の同定結果から、デデリエ・ネアンデルタールの獲物としては、野生のヤギ・ヒツジが最多で、その他ガゼラ・アカシカ・ダマシカ・ウマ・サイ等の大型草食獣、ライオン・オオカミ・ヤマネコ等の食肉獣も獲得されていたことがわかった。動物の組成並びにその生態データからネアンデルタール人の食生態、当時の環境を復元することが可能となる。
