研究概要

赤潮や有毒渦鞭毛藻の発生あるいは魚貝類の毒化が報告されているインドネシア、マレーシア、タイ、フィリピン、ヴェトナムにおいて、現地研究者と共同で有毒種と毒化魚貝類の採集及び有害赤潮発生の現状について調査を行った。また、フィリピン、インドネシア、ヴェトナムより研究分担者を招聘し、東京大学あるいは北里大学において、プランクトンの同定と分類、毒成分分析を共同で実施した。
インドネシアではマナド市沿岸の珊瑚礁域で調査を行ったが、シガテラ魚毒の原因となる渦鞭毛藻のGambierdiscus toxicusとProrocentrum limaが広範囲に発見さらた。水質等の海洋環境面では、浮遊性の有毒種が大規模に発生している,同国内の他海域と類似していることが確認され、将来有毒赤潮が発生する可能性もあると考えられた。マレーシアではサバのコタキナバル市近郊沿岸域で有毒渦鞭毛藻Pyrodinium bahamenseの発生が認められ、貝類も毒化していることが確認されたが、調査実施時には同種の発生量が少なく、研究のための培養株作成には至らなかった。フィリピンでは1986年以降毎年麻痺性中毒事件が発生しており、有毒プランクトンの発生に広域化長期化の傾向が見られていた。また、従来から発生していたP. bahamenseの他にGymnodinium catenatumも発生するようになっており、問題が深刻化していた。このため、レイテ島やパナイ島では海産物に頼る零細漁民の生活が変化して社会問題となっていた。ヴェトナムでは、有毒種を含む数種のAlexandriumが発生していることが現地調査及び招聘した研究分担者の持参試料から確認され、有害赤潮発生の可能性が高いことがわかった。タイでは沿岸域で富栄養化の進行が認められ、有害種の発生も確認された。これらの調査から今後も東南アジア諸国において本格的調査を継続する必要性が強く認められた。
