CPとT対称性の破れとフレーバーの物理

研究概要	素粒子の標準模型は実験的に検証されつつあり、ほぼ確立したものと考えられる。しかしながら、クオーク・レプトンの質量生成機構やCP対称性の破れの起源などについては、標準模型の枠内で説明することはできない。本研究の目的は、標準模型の背後にある、より基本的な素粒子模型を探索し、それを検証する実験的方法を提案することにあった。この目標に向けて、次の二つの課題を設定し研究を遂行した:(1)クオークの質量生成機構、(2)CP対称性の破れの起源 (1)クオークの質量生成機構なぜトップクオークの質量だけが電弱対称性の破れのスケール(100-200GEV程度)にあり、他のクオーク・レプトンがそれよりずっと軽いのかという疑問に対して、標準模型は答えを与えていない。本研究では、Left-Right模型を用いてこの問題に取り組んだ。この模型には、シ-ソ-機構が自然にくみこまれ、電弱対称性の破れのスケールより軽いクオーク・レプトンの質量を説明するのに適している。トップクオークの発見により、1つのクオークだけが電弱対称性の破れのスケールにあることがわかり、シ-ソ-機構に基づくクオーク質量公式を用いる本模型は、一時顧みられなかった。本研究の結果、トップクオークに対して、シ-ソ-機構が働かないようにすることができ、その質量を電弱対称性の破れのスケールに留まらせることができることがわかった。従って、標準模型の背後にある理論の候補として、この模型が充分考慮に値するものであることが明らかとなった。また、質量生成の機構を場の理論的に基礎づけるために、非摂動的な方法により、有限温度や重力場の下での動的カイラル対称性の破れの研究を行い、質量生成機構に対する解析的な結果を得た。 (2)CP対称性の破れの起源 Left-Right模型を用いて、小林-益川行列がどのように導かれるかを解明した。標準模型との違いとしてこの模型では、小林-益川行列のユニタリー性はわずかであるが破れることがわかった。その結果、ツリーレベルの中性カレントが生じる。この大きさを理論的に評価し現在の実験の制限に比べて充分抑制されることも示した。ただ、近い将来稼働する予定のBファクトリーでこの模型を検証するのは、簡単ではないことがわかった。模型の検証をK中間子やニュートリノの物理にひろげて研究することは今後の課題である。
