作物の乾物生産と水利用効率を効率的に高めるための根の役割

研究概要

トウモロコシ、ジャガイモをはじめ各種作物を種々の条件に生育させ、根系の発達、光合成、乾物生産、水利用効率およびこれらに及ぼす根の機能の影響について検討を行ない、以下の結果を得た。
1.土壌水分が低下すると葉の老化が進み、光合成速度が減少し、水利用効率が低下する。低土壌水分条件に生育すると出液速度が低下し、根から地上部に送られるサイトカイニン量や窒素量が減少する。そこで圃場に無灌漑条件で生育するトウモロコシの茎基部に、湿潤土壌に生育するトウモロコシの茎基部から採取した木部液、ゼアチンリボシド(ZR)、KNO_3を注入したところ、木部液、ZRを注入したトウモロコシは水のみを注入したトウモロコシに比較して葉の緑色程度の減少が小さく、葉の老化が抑制されることがわかった。
2.水利用効率の変化を大気のCO_2濃度と(葉-大気)飽差の変化から見積もることができるモデルを作り、ワタとダイズの個葉、個体さらには個体郡を用いてモデルによる予測値を実測値と比較した。その結果、予測値は実測値とかなりよくあうことがわかった。さらに呼吸や根系の形成に使われる炭素量は光合成によって固定される炭素量に比例することが推察された。^<13>Cを用いての同化産物の配分の研究方法について検討を行なった。
3.半乾燥地の著しく土壌水分条件が低下した圃場では、ジャガイモの根系は1.5mもの深さまで明らかに達していることが塹壕法による根系調査からわかった。
4.低土壌水分条件に生育しているトウモロコシにかん水すると出液速度は一時的に急激に増加する。これは木部液の浸透ポテンシャルがかん水後急激に低下することによっておこることがわかった。
