研究概要	4つの重点項目について以下の研究成果を得た。(1)細胞周期制御:横沢は卵の分裂周期で一過的に上昇する細胞内カルシウムによるプロテアソームの活性化が、キナーゼ阻害剤で阻害されること、またプロテアソームの26Sから20Sへの解離がホスファターゼ処理によっておこることを見いだした。岸本は細胞周期におけるM期の終了はCdc2-サイクリンB複合体のサイクリンBの蛋白分解によってもたらされるが、Cdc2はその直前に解離している可能性を示した。(2)細胞増殖・文化の制御:名取はセンチニクバエ変態期において幼虫中腸を崩壊させる新規セリンプロテアーゼがプロテアーゼ活性に加え、ザルコトキシンIAと共通抗原性をもつ抗菌活性も併せ持つことを明らかにした。川島は、カルパスタチン遺伝子の翻訳開始点上流の5^1-非翻訳領域の構造に高い多様性を認め、カルパスタチンが複雑な転写制御を受けていることを示唆した。(3)細胞死制御:三浦はLPSで発現誘導されて自己活性化するカスパーゼ-11のノックアウトマウスを作製した。変異マウスは正常に発生し生殖可能であったが、septic shockに耐性であった。本酵素は生体でカスパーゼ-1の活性を上流で調節する遺伝子であることが示唆された。内山は、無血清、NGF無添加で誘起されるアポトーシスの系で、カスパーゼが活性化されない条件では、カテプシンD/Bによる細胞死制御系が働くことを明確に示した。(4)恒常性の維持・監視の制御:木南は、リソソームプロテアーゼ群がエンドソーム/ファゴソーム系とリソソーム系では個々のカテプシン量、獲得過程に大きな差があること、自食作用に伴い限定分解を受ける細胞質蛋白を同定し、自食作用の指標となる可能性を示した。大隅は、酵母の自食作用に必須なAPG遺伝子物産の同定を行ない、自食作用に伴う膜構造のマーカーとして有力な分子としてApg6,Apg8,Apg9を得た。
