研究概要	中世ヨーロッパ全体の言語文化を展望の視座に据えて、中世イギリスの言語と文学の綜合的研究を目的とする本研究課題は、拠るべきテクストの問題とその言語の問題を中心に根本的かつ多角的な共同研究を行うとともに、原写本・原典資料のマイクロフィルムなどによる収集とその保存利用、電子化テクストによるコンコーダンス・データベースなど言語的情報の電子化による研究支援環境の整備充実、ならびにそのありかたの検討、国内の中世英語英文学研究の海外への紹介、そのための研究業績リストの作成などをその主たる課題とする。前期までの成果をふまえ、最も急務である拠るべきテクストとその言語の問題の検討を進め、最終年度公刊予定の Text and Language of Beowulf,Chaucer and Related Works 2の編纂準備を行なうとともに、写本、刊本テクストで電子テクスト化すべきものの検討、Variorum Beowulfの作成を中心に共同研究を行なった(久保内等が大英図書館でのBeowulf写本の転写作業を行なう)。また内外で高い評価を得ている『中世英語英文学研究業績リスト』については1994-6年分について補充アンケート調査等編纂作業を進め、別途編集のニューズレター(MESN)の編集も継続した。吉野を中心にオックスフォード大学のM.Godden教授からレビューを受け、多大の成果を収めた。研究の成果は、野口がオーストラリアのモナシュ大学での講演において、高宮、Scahill,向井、久保内が日本英文学会第68回大会で、小倉が7月リ-ズの国際中世学会、ポーランドのポズナニでの第9回国際英語史学会で、小倉、松田が日本中世英語英文学会全国大会において発表し、小倉はまた日本英語学会シンポジウムでも発表を行い、松田も7月ゲッチンゲンでの中世翻訳理学会においてその一部を発表した。
