研究概要

本年度はスーパー・カミオカンデのデータが蓄積して、太陽ニュートリノ、大気ニュートリノの詳細な解析が可能になった。特に太陽ニュートリノ欠損問題や大気ニュートリノ異常問題を解明する有力な説である。ニュートリノ振動に関する解析でカミオカンデを大幅に凌駕する信頼度でニュートリノ振動の可能性が確認された。東北大学が推進している液体シンチレータ・反ニュートリノ観測実験は、実験装置の最終案が決まり、来年度から観測装置の建設が始まる。又使用する液体シンチレータの開発、新20″光電子増倍管の開発も終わり、順調に研究が進行している。名古屋大学が行っているν^→_<μ←>ν_τ振動実験は、データ量が増大し、解析が急ピッチで進行している。今のところν_τ現象が見つかっていないが、今後の解析が期待される。つくば市の高エネルギー加速器研究機構(KEK)で生成したニュートリノ・ビームを神岡鉱山内のスーパー・カミオカンデに入射させてν^→_<μ←>ν_x振動を測定する実験は、現在KEK側でのビームラインの運転、装置 建設の順調に行われており、1999年1月の実験開始に向けて研究者一丸となって取り組んでいる。
本年度も日本におけるニュートリノ物理学及び関連する素粒子、宇宙物理学における最新の研究成果の発表と情報交換の場として、11月に八幡平で2日半の研究会を開催した。総出席者数58人、発表者数25人で活発な議論が行われた。
以上のように、ニュートリノ物理学の実験的研究は、現在世界をリ-ドする研究が日本で行われており、現行実験のさらなる研究の推進と、これから実験装置が完成して実験開始を目指している研究に期待がかけられている。
