研究概要	1997年11月に,茨城県高萩市および阿武隈高原において,シンポジュウムと現地討論会を開催した.参加者は,岩石学・鉱物学・構造地質学・地球科学・結晶学など多分野にわたり,全体で40名に達した.シンポジュウムでの発表は,口頭27件,ポスター15件であり,各分野における現時点までの到達点と問題点について議論した.若手研究者の講演も15件にのぼり,研究組織全体の底上げの観点からも十分成果があったと思われる.また,現地討論会は,変成作用と火成作用を結ぶものとして注目を集めている「ミグマタイト」をキーワードとして実施され,岩石の部分溶融現象が露頭でどの様に認識できるかなどについて議論を深めた.シンポジュウムでの講演内容の一部は,「地学雑誌」上で順次発表される予定である.また,昨年度のシンポジュウムの際に確認された,公表論文の基礎になった情報のデータベース化について、さらに詳しい話し合いが行われ必要な情報の具体的検討が開始された.なお,1996年に,総合研究A「地殻の発達過程のモデリング」のグループと共催したシンポジュウムの成果は,特集「変成岩岩石学の現状と将来への展望」として,「地学雑誌」1997年9月号で公表された. 来年度は,岡山市でシンポジュウムを開催し最終年度のまとめを行う予定であり,今年度以上に若手研究者を含めた多くの人たちに参加を呼びかける予定である.
