研究概要

兵隊アブラムシを含む社会性昆虫における社会行動,寄主植物と植食者の共進化,植物の繁殖戦略,動物における性的二型について,系統樹を用いた種間比較による解析を進めた。あわせて,とくに分岐点における祖先形質状態の復元方法や種間比較の基礎となる分子系統樹の作成の際の各コドンポジションへの重み付けなどの問題点についても検討した。寄主植物と植食者の共進化や動物における性的二型については,形質データはそろいつつあるが,系統関係の情報に不十分な点があった。また,メキシコ産ステビア属の種間の系統関係をITSで推定し、同種の有性型と無性型の枝の長さには差がなく無性型では弱有害遺伝子が蓄積され進化速度が速くなるという予測はあてはまらないこと,無性生殖は木本に比べ、多年草で進化しやすいという有意な傾向があることが明らかになった。後者は,木本ではパラサイト圧が高いために有性生殖が有利であるという仮説を支持するものである。
分岐点における形質状態の推定には,最節約法に基づくものやブラウン運動に基づくものがある。系統樹の枝の長さがわからず樹形のみがわかる場合には,ブラウン運動に基づく方法ではデータから得られる情報量の減少がおおきいことがわかった。また,どれを使うかによって種間比較の結果が異なるのはどのような場合であるかについても検討した。
植物の花や社会性の動物における繁殖の偏りや生存率のちがい,キンラン属植物と菌根菌の対応関係と腐生性の進化,アカシジミ属の分子系統解析に基づく単食性の進化と種分化過程の再検討など,系統樹を用いた種間比較が適用しやすい問題をリストアップし,使用可能な系統樹がすでにあるか,信頼できる形質データはそろっているかどうかなどの研究遂行上の問題点を分析・討論した。
