研究概要

本研究の目的は、多くの動物、特に新口動物幹に属する動物の発生において中心的役割を担っている形成中心の分子的機能を種々の動物群について明らかにしようとするものである。平成9年度には、平成8年度の成果をふまえて、より先端的に研究を進めることを心がけた。班員は常に密接な連絡を取りながら研究を進め、さらに12月に一泊の班会議を行い、各班員の研究について討論を行った。無脊椎動物のウニについては、内胚葉誘導シグナルを出す小割球に特異的に発現する遺伝子の探索が続けられた。脊椎動物では、魚類特にゼブラフィッシュの背腹軸を決定する多くの遺伝子が同定された。一方アフリカツメガエルにおける背腹軸の決定に関しては従来からも多くの知見が集積しているが、両生類の形成体の成立と背腹軸の決定に関わる因子が実験発生学的にも、また分子的にもより一層明確になってきた。これらの研究により、少なくとも脊椎動物の諸綱の中では、形成中心というものの相同性を分子レベルで理解する事ができるようになった。この点は本年度の大きな進展である。さらに鳥類や哺乳類のような高等脊椎動物での初期発生に関わる遺伝子の研究も活発に行われ、脊索の形成や内胚葉の領域決定に関わる遺伝子が同定されつつある。このように、研究は着実に進展しており、来年度は最終年度として、各動物グループ間の形成中心の相同性に関して、分子的立場から統一的な仮説を提出できるだけのデータを得たいと考えている。
