中新世西南日本のテクトニクス:マントル内異常高温の総合解析

研究概要	(1) 瀬戸内火山帯の活動時期と西南日本の回転時期西部九州から中部地方にわたり約800kmの火山帯を形成する瀬戸内火山岩類約50個について、K-Ar法を用いた年代測定を行なった。従来の結果では1100〜1600万年前程度の値が得られていたが、今回の高精度分析によって、瀬戸内火山帯の活動は1300〜1500万年前の短期間に限られることが明らかになった。また、年代測定を行なった試料について古地磁気方位の測定を行ない、瀬戸内火山帯の形成時と西南日本弧の時計廻り回転が同時に起こったことが明らかになった。即ち、瀬戸内火山帯の特異な火山活動は、島弧の回転に伴う強制的な沈み込みが原因である。 (2) マントル/スラブの温度構造の推定上記のテクトニックな特徴を考慮に入れ、さらにこれまでに得られた瀬戸内火山帯に於けるマグマ発生の温度圧力条件を束縛条件として、瀬戸内火山帯直下のマントルおよび沈み込む四国海盆プレート内の温度構造を、計算機シミュレーションによって求めた。その結果、通常の沈み込み帯では不可能であるプレート表面の融解現象が、このような特異な条件下では起こり得ることが明らかになった。 (3) スラブ融解と流紋岩質マグマの発生瀬戸内火山帯を特徴づける岩石の1つである流紋岩について、Sr-Nd-Pb同位体比、および微量成分元素の測定を行ない、これらの化学的特徴が、沈み込むプレート表面に分布する堆積物の融解によって説明できることを示した。
