光による誘電場操作と化学反応の制御

研究概要

溶液中の溶質分子が受ける電場のゆらぎの大きさと頻度を定量的に解析するために、分子動力学計算と分子軌道計算を組み合わせ、分子振動の位相緩和と振動バンド形の溶媒効果を計算する新しい理論的手法を開発した。典型的な極性溶媒であるアセトニトリル中、および典型的な無極性溶媒である四塩化炭素中のアセトン分子のC=O伸縮振動にこの手法を適用した。理論計算は、アセトニトリル中の実測赤外吸収バンド形を良く再現したが、四塩化炭素中のバンド形は再現しなかった。アセトニトリル中では、アセトン分子上の電場が2.4ピコ秒の自己相関時間をもって揺動し、その大きさはほとんどクーロン相互作用により決まっていることがわかった。
溶液中の溶質分子に対する外部電場の効果を調べるために、電場変調赤外分光法を開発した。この新しい手法により、溶質分子とその集合体の電気双極子モーメントや、電場による結合の分極の大きさを求めることが可能となった。四塩化炭素中のアセトン分子にこの手法を適用した結果、アセトンの濃度約1mol dm^<-3>を境として、それより低濃度側ではアセトン分子が単独で存在するが、高濃度側では何らかの会合体を形成していることがわかった。
光によって誘起される過渡的な溶媒極性の変化を、分光学的手法により観測する目的で、シクロヘキサン中のクマリン153分子の蛍光スペクトルの励起強度依存性を調べた。強励起の条件下では、蛍光を発するクマリン153分子の周囲に、大きな電気双極子モーメントをもつ他の励起状態のクマリン153分子が存在し、極性環境が過渡的につくり出される。その結果、蛍光スペクトルは弱励起の時のものに比べて、極性側にシフトすることが予想される。ナノ秒時間分解蛍光分光装置を用いて、この実験を行ったところ、小さくはあるが有意のシフトが、予測された方向に観測された。すなわち、光による溶媒極性の制御が、過渡的に実現された。
