HREELS-STMによる表面局所構造の電子状態の研究

研究概要	(a)平成8年度より表面局所構造の電子状態を研究する手段として高分解能電子エネルギー損失分光法(HREELS)と走査トンネル顕微鏡(STM)との複合測定装置 (HREELS-STM)を開発してきた。最終年度である平成10年度は、その有効性を検証するために、光電子分光法(PES)による電子状態の測定も行い、HREELS-STMの測定結果と比較した。実際の系として、過去2年間行ったC60の吸着したSi(111)-(7x7)、Si(100)-(2x1)表面を選んだ。HREELSによる測定の結果、Si(111)-(7x7)表面に0.25原子層吸着した場合、C60は、Si(111)-(7x7)表面では強い化学結合(イオン結合)を形成すること、さらに、シリコン表面からC60への電荷移動量が(3±1)個であることが明らかになった。それ以上の吸着ではファンデン・ワールスカによる物理吸着を示す。一方、Si(100)-(2xl)表面では、どの吸着量でも物理吸着である。STM観察もこれらの結果を支持する。光電子分光法による荷電子帯スペクトルには、両表面とも0.25原子層吸着した場合、2.4eVに結合軌道が観測された。さらに吸着量を増すと、結合軌道は消失する。この振る舞いは、Si(111)-(7x7)表面のHREELS測定と一致するが、Si(100)-(2x1)表面の測定結果とは異なる。カーボン1s内殻準位、シリコン2p内殻準位の測定とあわせて議論した。その結果、吸着の機構を統一的に分子軌道法の概念から導出することに、いくつかの問題点を提示した。(b)この系を加熱することによって起こる反応・分解機構は、ブライホルダー・モデルを改良することによって理解できる。(C)以上の研究結果、HREELS-STMは表面局所構造の電子状態と振動状態の研究に究めて有効性であることが示された。
